Boral honoured at national asphalt awards
Boral congratulates two leaders in our Queensland asphalt business for achieving recognition at the national industry awards.
Brisbane Metropolitan Crew Supervisor Ian Kirby (above right) received the inaugural Road Worker of the Year Award and North Queensland Contracting Operations Manager Paul Horn (above left) was presented with the Emerging Leader Award at the Australian Asphalt and Pavement Association’s national gala dinner and awards night.
Queensland asphalt General Manager Rob McGuire (above centre) said Paul had a proven ability to take initiative, lead by example and dedicate time to developing his team members through training and mentoring opportunities. Paul also has a proven ability to put technical issues into practical action through the large scale contracting team he has previously managed in the Brisbane Metro business.
Paul has participated in several projects for the asphalt industry with key stakeholders such as the Australian Asphalt and Pavement Association (AAPA), affiliated companies, Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) and local Consulting Engineers. He is also a member of the AAPA (QLD) Technical Committee.
Mr McGuire said road crew supervisor Ian Kirby was the “go-to” person for the development and implementation of safety initiatives for contracting crews. Ian is also able to ensure all technical requirements are understood and implemented by the road crews.
“Ian’s focus on safety, execution of work, ability to communicate with crew members, customers, TMR representatives and Boral senior management, attention to quality and detail is unsurpassed,” Mr McGuire said.
“He is extremely dedicated, positive, well-respected and trusted by many in the industry, but none more so than the people he works alongside.
“He takes the safety of his crew personally and engages with them consistently and regularly to ensure that all work activities are completed safely.”
