Upon Sydney Metro's completion in 2024, trains will run from the north-west under Sydney Harbour, through new underground stations in the CBD and beyond to the south-west. Ultimately a train will operate every two minutes in each direction under the city serving an expected 40,000 commuters an hour.
The client and Boral transformed a warehouse in the Sydney suburb of Marrickville into a concrete batching facility concrete is being supplied for 99,746 precast concrete segments to line the 15.5-kilometre twin tunnels between Chatswood and Sydenham. The facility can produce one four-tonne segment every six minutes with six segments required to make one tunnel ring, which is installed by a tunnel boring machine as it moves forward. The first segments were produced in April 2018.
The project started in 2016.
